Pooper Scoopers for Dogs

Updated on December 4, 2010

If you’re new to having a dog, you may cringe at the idea of picking up dog poo, and you might really cringe at the thought of getting anywhere near it with your hands. If you’re like me, however, you can’t be bothered with carrying a pooper scooper round, as they can be cumbersome and inconvenient – I’d much rather use a plastic bag as a makeshift glove and pick up dog poo that way. But if you’re someone who can’t stomach that sort of thing, or if you’re someone who has a physical condition that might limit you in your dog poo collection attempts (a bad back, for example) you may want to get you the super duper handy type of pooper scooper that you needn’t exert yourself to use.

Firstrax Poop Patrol

The Firstrax Poop Patrol Jaw Scoop is convenient for scooping up dog poo, particularly if you don't want to get anywhere near it. This may come in handy for those with back issues, or those who simply don't want to get up close. The handle of the pooper scooper controls the jaw and makes it easy to pick up after solid, loose, big or small dog droppings. Not only is it inexpensive, it's well made and will make poo cleaning detail much easier.

Advanced Poop Scoop

The advance poop scoop is large enough to pick up quite a lot of poo in one go. It comes highly recommended, with some reviews claiming the poo scooper is almost fun to use! It's durable, made for one-handed use and is designed to make picking up poo easy on you and your back. It's easy to put together, and is hand washable (although I'm sure most people would rather use a hose!)

Four Paws Scissors Scooper

Four Paws makes this simple and easy to use rake style pooper scooper. It's straightforward to use and will make poo cleanup much easier. The two pieces are connected so you don't have to worry about getting them to work together. This particular style makes it easy to clean up dog poo on the beach, dog poo among sticks or rocks or dog poo anywhere that you wouldn't want to scoop up everything else in the vicinity along with the poop itself.

Hound Dog Poop Scoop

The Hound Dog Pooper Scooper is slightly more expensive than other models but it's good quality and very popular and comes with a limited lifetime warranty. It's got rake action, but you only need one hand to use it and the rake scoops the dog poo into the bag for you. Note that unlike other poo scoopers, this one can use regular grocery bags so you needn't worry about purchasing special poo bags.
